CCRCs Expand Their Marketing Efforts

By David L Reibstein

Dear Future, Im Ready... written on desert roadSome Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs also known as Life Plan Communities) are expanding the way in which they market to families looking for independent senior living. The Quadrangle and Freedom Village assist families by paying a placement fee on behalf of the family to companies representing them as they move in.

What does this mean for families?  Families now can rely on companies like S3Living to represent them as they move to communities and at least two of them will pay S3Living's placement fee on behalf of the family. Moving to a CCRC can be frustrating and overwhelming and it helps to have an advocate representing your interests in all facets of the move. The Quadrangle and Freedom Village recognize the process is difficult and now encourage support from S3Living to assist with the move in process.

What does this mean for CCRC's? By communities offering to pay a placement fee for companies that help families move to their community, communities are expanding the way in which they market to the public. This placement fee comes out of the company's marketing budget and signals a new way in which families can be assisted as they move to independent living.

What should families do now?  If you are considering moving to independent living, you probably already have some understanding of what a CCRC offers. CCRCs boast independent living as well as higher levels of care offered together on one campus. Families must decide what type of contract they are looking for: Life Care or Fee for Service or a Modified Life Care Contract; whether they want an entrance fee or rental community; and what level of activities are they looking for the community to provide for them.  Once families are educated about the process, which is no easy feat, they must compare and contrast the communities. An advocate for their interests would be helpful and that is what S3Living offers. And at some communities (The Quadrangle and Freedom Village) the placement fee is covered by the community.
